Izabella Newby awarded the Duncan Kirk Cup

Under 18's Youth and Wasps player Izabella Newby was recently awarded the Duncan Kirk Spirit of Youth Rugby Cup at Wymondham Rugby Football Club.

Presented by Club Chair Paul Wootton on a sunny afternoon at the Club, Paul explained the history behind the award:

"Duncan was a much loved coach who died suddenly in 2021.  His family, coaching group, employers and the Club wanted to recognise his contribution with an award.  It is awarded annually to a youth player nominated by their team who has demonstrated the true spirit of rugby.

Jules, the Wasps Youth Administrator, explained that the coaching team had nominated Izzy, the girls captain, "because of her true commitment to rugby at the Club. Last year she received an injury but returned to playing as soon as she could. She always welcomes new players and helps out where she can and is really positive and cheerful. We also wanted to recognise that we understand the adversity Izzy has overcome in her life but remains a great example to our younger players".

Her Dad Shaun added that Izzy has got a lot out of rugby at the Club and has recently progressed onto the women's team: "they have made her feel so very welcome. She loves her Rugby”.
