Mitsubishi Volunteer of the Year!

I always like sharing good news with you. There has been plenty of the bad variety over the last 18 months!

The Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer awards, in their fifth year, recognise volunteers’ efforts across three categories: Beyond Rugby, Resilience in Rugby and Diversity and Inclusion. Last year our very own Dan Cane was shortlisted. This year Charlie Wootton was nominated by Eastern Counties rugby (one of only two across the region) and then shortlisted for the Resilience in Rugby category, which had around two thirds of the nominees totalling 52 across all three categories.

I am delighted to say that Charlie won her category in recognition of the huge amount of work she put in supporting the Club through the most difficult period in its history. A link to the website can be found here, which also includes a summary for each of the three winners:

When I took over as Chair I regarded it as essential that we put volunteering at the heart of all we do. Charlie’s appointment as Volunteer Coordinator has been the catalyst to make this happen. I have seen at first hand the huge amount of effort that Charlie has put in and I am of course immensely proud of her and so pleased that these efforts have been independently recognised. However, typically, Charlie immediately said the award was not for her but for all of those at the Club who have put in countless hours of volunteering over many years. She would want me to thank all of you for helping to make our Club what it is.

I know you will all want to join me in congratulating Charlie for this richly deserved award.
