Assistant Men’s Coach

JOB TITLE: Senior Men’s Assistant Coach, Wymondham Rugby Club

REPORTS TO: Head Coach (Senior Men)

JOB PURPOSE:

To assist the Head Coach in developing and implementing a high-performance coaching plan for the

WRFC Senior Men’s teams, ensuring players consistently fulfil their potential and that teams achieve competitive success in alignment with the Club’s strategy.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Coaching & Development:

-Support the Head Coach in planning and delivering structured, engaging, and progressive training sessions.

-Contribute to the continuous development of players, both technically and tactically, in line with the Club’s playing philosophy.

-Provide individual player feedback and ensure sessions are tailored to address development needs.

-Assist in identifying and developing key positional players to strengthen the squad.

Game Preparation & Performance:

-Work with the Head Coach to prepare game strategies, opposition analysis, and matchday plans.

-Assist with team selection, ensuring a merit-based and fair process underpinned by the existing selection policy.

-Contribute to pre-match, in-game, and post-match analysis, including Veo/video analysis where applicable.

-Support the team on match days, including warm-ups, substitutions, and tactical adjustments.

Player & Team Development:

-Support the transition of players from the Colts and Senior Development Squad to the Senior Men’s team.

-Foster a culture of high performance, discipline, and enjoyment in line with the Club’s values.

Recruitment & Retention:

-Assist in identifying and recruiting players to strengthen the squad.

-Support retention efforts by fostering a positive team culture and ensuring clear player development pathways.

Collaboration & Communication:

-Maintain strong communication with the Head Coach, Team Manager, and support staff to ensure seamless coordination.

-Engage with the wider coaching team to share best practices and develop a unified club coaching approach.

-Maintain good relationships with players, Club Management, supporters, sponsors, and match officials, adhering to RFU Core Values (Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment,

Discipline & Sportsmanship).

Club & RFU Compliance:

-Ensure all Club and RFU policies, processes, and regulations are followed.

-Work with the Club Safeguarding Officer (CSO) to ensure all legal and policy requirements are adhered to.

-Promote exemplary behaviour among players and staff, upholding the RFU Code of Conduct.

Community & Club Engagement:

-Represent the Senior Men’s team in club events, fundraising, and community initiatives.

-Ensure engagement between players and club sponsors after home league games.

-Support club-wide initiatives to strengthen relationships with Norfolk RFU, Eastern Counties Rugby Union, and RFU training and development staff.

End-of-Season Review & Planning:

-Contribute to the review of team and player performances at the end of the season.

-Assist in planning for the following season, including recruitment, pre-season preparations, and long-term squad development.

This role requires a motivated and committed individual with a passion for player development and performance rugby. The Assistant Coach must work collaboratively within the coaching team to drive success for the Senior Men’s squad while upholding the values and vision of Wymondham Rugby Club.
